all about Shakti
Shakti (pronounced "shahk-tee") comes from the Sanskrit root for
divine energy. It was inspired by a vision to create a warm, open
and inviting space for exploring yoga, mindfulness, spirit and community.
We invite you to our intimate and cozy studio so that you can experience
each class to the fullest. Our space is meant to make you feel as
though you were at home. Shakti is designed to be an individualized
studio. Our goal is to create a spa inspired atmosphere so that each
time you come to take a class you are having a mini retreat. The space
is warmed with earthy tones and textiles to create a haven of peace
and serenity. After class enjoy a warm cup of tea or lounge on our
silk covered benches. You can even peruse our Shakti shop stocked
with beautiful hand made bath and body products and all natural cleaning
products and foods. What you experience in one visit can change your
point of view and enhance every aspect of your life, for good. At
Shakti we strive to make yoga a lifestyle. Shaktis title says
YOGA HEALING ARTS. We combine many modalities to help you find your
creative energy. Receive one of our many wellness services, take a
music or cooking class
stir up your inner fire.
We strive to help you
.. Unlike the large yoga classes typical
in most gyms or fitness centers, sessions at Shakti are small and
personal, addressing the body, mind and spirit with lots of individual
attention for maximum benefit...and safety. Here instead of holding
classes with 40 or 50 students we allow a maximum of 15. This allows
each student the opportunity to have a connection their teacher, and
to play a role in each others lives. We offer classes in different
styles with teachers both male and female varying in age and from
all teaching backgrounds. We want each student to explore what best
serves them for their practice.
Yoga opens the body allowing the spirit to come through, bringing about healing and a profound connection to true self. Yoga is a proven method for increasing flexibility and strength, releasing deep tension or holding patterns in the body, and quieting the mind.
ABOUT YOGA...and why ITS DIFFERENT at SHAKTI... Yoga is
experiencing tremendous popularity in the U.S., with some 15 million
devotees -- in 2003 alone, the number of Americans practicing yoga
increased nearly 29% over the previous year [Harris Research]. However,
yoga is by no means a passing fad.
Rather, it is a centuries-old, inspirational practice -- and one that is firmly finding its place in a society fraught with unprecedented levels of stress and anxiety.
Numerous scientific studies and the mainstream medical community are proving that yoga measurably affects the musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular and endocrine systems. OPEN, DISCOVER and AWAKEN to the healing power of yoga!
Krista and the entire Shakti team are here to "meet people wherever
they are. " Stop in, say hi, ask questions...most importantly,
come as you are, with an open mind and heart.
